No stranger to Eskimo Recordings Andrew Armstrong now brings his latest project, Daddy Squad, to the Belgian label with Galaxie / Love On The Rocks, two tracks of exquisite modern disco that provide the perfect backdrop for the seductive vocals of celebrated French chanteuse Corine.
“I’d long been a fan of Corine’s soft vocals and disco jams, so I was delighted when she followed me back on Instagram,” Andrew explains. “We finally met in Madrid when Corine was performing there and we quickly cemented the idea of working together. Both these tracks evolved at the same time, like twins, each with their own personality, but linked by a common heritage.”
Kicking off this collaboration then with Galaxie, Corine proves once and for all that French truly is as much the language of disco as it is of love, her staccato vocals punctuating the track’s insistent Linn drums as every word wraps themselves around the snake like acidic bleeps that wriggle and writhe their way throughout the song as they bring us again and again to the edge of ecstasy.
Accompanying Galaxie the pair have also turned their hand to a faithful, if wonderfully pumped up, cover of Lama’s 1983 Italo classic Love On The Rocks. Once again Corine’s breathy vocals find the perfect foil in Andrew’s analogue machines as they deliver a heady mix of oiled up arpeggios, disco beats and chichi melodies that sparkle like a well-polished mirrorball.
